Mossel Bay is second only to Hawaii for having the mildest all-year-round climate in the world, according to the Guiness Book of Records. Join the locals for a safe, brisk morning swim in the world's largest natural tidal pool just in front of the hotel. Surfers can enjoy one of the best surfing venues on the coastline including internationally renowned Inner and Outer Pool.

Historic Monument

Mossel Bay offers a wide range of historic architecture, with the arrival of Bartholomew Diaz when he sailed into the bay on 3 February 1488, an event witnessed by the Khoi-San. When he landed in the bay, he called it Bahia (Aguada) de Sao Bras (“the watering place of St Blaize).  St Blaize is the patron saint of those who suffer from disorders of the ear.

The Bartolomeu Dias Museum Complex in the center of town consists of various sites of interest.  The most well-known historical feature is the Old Post Office Tree.  The first post office on South African soil was founded at Mossel Bay in 1500 when Pedro de Ataide left a letter of importance in a shoe under a large Milkwood Tree.  Mail is still posted at this ancient Post Office.  Today, it is a National Monument.
